Explore Thailand on a Motorcycle

Motorcycles are wonderful simple machines that, with the right make and model, you could see the world! Motorcycling is a popular pastime in Thailand mostly because of its low barrier of entry as a form of transportation. In Bangkok, motorcycles are the backbone of the economy that keeps people moving during the city’s notorious peak hour traffic.

Given how popular motorcycles are, it’s easy to pick a decent model for not too much money. Maintenance is also quite affordable, given the low labour costs in Thailand. But riding in Thailand, if you’re not careful, can be a hazardous experience as size wins on the roads of Thailand. Though if you’re careful, experiencing Thailand on two wheels can be a life-changing experience.

Being on a motorcycle allows you to get closer to the action and puts you right in the midst of the sights, sounds and kamikaze trucks of Thailand. And it’ll be an amazing experience as long as you keep to the small roads and avoid riding at night around busy areas in Pattaya, where reckless farangs on two wheels are plenty.

If you can brave the traffic and make it out North or South, you can find many places that are a sight to behold. Koh Samui has some of the best roads to experience on a motorcycle, with picturesque ribbons of tarmac running alongside the sea. And if the heat isn’t your cup of tea, head North and find yourselves in the mountains of Chiang Mai where the average air temperature hovers around 18-25 degrees Celsius, making for a very comfortable ride.

Whatever your choice of motorcycle or route, Thailand offers plenty of options for both. Just stay away from the trucks!
